Hand dye embroidery floss

WHAT YOU NEED:
- Watercolors
- White embroidery floss (I used DMC 3865)
- A large marker
- A paint brush
- Adesive tape

EASY TO DO:
- On a cardboard do some color test. Find the combinations that you like.
- Wrap the white cotton on the marker. Attach the two ends with adesive tape.
- Start to paint the thread, reminding you that if you want to get the pastel shades, you will need to dilute the color with greater amounts of water.
- Let it dry thoroughly and proceed with embroidery using the strands you need. (For the arrows embroidered on the paper, I've used two strands).

TIP:
If you haven't the watercolors you can try with food dyes or color mist. Or if you have other ideas, share by leaving a message here. :P

Una cosa è certa: questa cosa qui la si fa quando non hai km di filo da tingere e se il filo che devi utilizzare non è destinato al lavaggio. Se volete approfondire in materia "hand dye" il web è ricco di tutorial che mostrano come trasformare matasse di cotone bianco in fili da ricamo dai colori resistenti al lavaggio e tinte introvabili in commercio.
Qui parliamo giusto di qualche cm di filo di cotone, quello che comunemente usate per il ricamo.

COSA VI OCCORRE:
- Acquerelli
- Cotone bianco (io ho usato il DMC 3865)
- Un pennarello grande
- Un pennello
- Scotch

FACILE DA FARE:
- Su un cartoncino fate alcune prove di colore. Trovate gli accostamenti che più vi piacciono.
- Avvolgete sul pennarello il filo bianco che vi occorre. Fissate le due estremità con un po' di scotch.
- Iniziate a colorare il filo ricordandovi che se volete ottenere delle sfumature pastello, dovrete diluire il colore con maggiore quantità di acqua. Vice-versa: filo dalla sfumatura più accesa, minore quantità di acqua nel colore.
- Lasciate asciugare bene e procedete col ricamo utilizzando i fili che vi occorrono. (Per le frecce ricamate sul cartoncino, io ne ho usati due).
